Havana, Cuba

The Most Famous (Photographed) Woman in Havana

Cuba is my first love.

Cuba has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. I am not sure where my fascination with this country came from, but I have always wanted to visit.

I finally got a chance to visit, and guess what? It rained almost the entire trip! I am talking about rainstorms, not just little showers. I was disappointed about not being able to visit more places while I was there, but I still enjoyed the experience.

The one thing I loved the most about my trip to Cuba was the people. The picture above shows a genuine interaction. Everyone I met was full of optimism.

I took this trip with my mother and sister. My mother, who was born in Jamaica, had nostalgic moments while walking around Havana. Because the cars and infrastructure in Cuba are still very much reminiscent of the 1960s, my mother felt as if she was in Jamaica during the same time period. This was one of the best memories I have of this trip.

When traveling to Cuba, I recommend staying in an Airbnb. Not only are you supporting Cuban homeowners, but the hotels are outdated. I personally enjoyed the option of staying at an Airbnb here because I was able to stay within the community. Havana is extremely safe, and although not many people speak English, they try to be as accommodating as possible. You can view the Airbnb I stayed at here. My host spoke English and even took us around Havana one day. He gave us a lot of history and even took us to lunch at one of his favorite restaurants.

It’s safe to say that I need a Cuba do-over with warm weather and more exploration into other cities in Cuba. However, this trip was still a dream come true. Even if I don’t get to visit again, I am grateful for the experience.
