Mexico City, Mexico

CDMX Itinerary

Where To Stay:

Centro Historico is the best area to stay in if you want to be in the center of all the action. I stayed at Casa de la Luz Hotel Boutique. The hotel was gorgeous and looked and felt like Mexico City. Why go to another country to stay at a super modern chain hotel am I right?

This hotel also has a beautiful rooftop restaurant. The food and drinks are great, and the staff is fantastic.

Other neighborhoods/areas to consider:

-Roma (my favorite neighborhood, Which is quiet and charming)

-Condesa

-Polanco

-Del Valle

These neighborhoods are good to consider if choosing to stay at an Airbnb.

Where To Eat:

My favorite dish was at a small restaurant in San Angel called “Chucho el Roto.” I ate so much that I started crying because I could barely move. The food was so good. It is local, so you don’t have to worry about the food being un-seasoned. San Angel has many good restaurants, including more upscale ones like La Jacinta Terraza, which is also an excellent choice.

Churreria El Moro- this is where you want to get your churros fix! They also have excellent ice cream.

Mercado Roma- If you need help deciding what you like to eat, this is a good option. It’s a big food hall with different restaurants/food stands inside. There are lots of option to choose from.

Licoreria Limantour- While in Roma, you should stop at this spot for some drinks. It gets pretty loud and turnt up in here!

Pujol- This is one of the most exclusive restaurants in the city. Reservations are booked months in advance. You can find reservations here.

There are so many cute cafes for breakfast, but some of my favorites were in Coyoacan. You can close your eyes and choose one.

Things To Do:

Xochimilco - These boats that ride along the canals are so relaxing, minus all the vendors and mariachi bans that pull up to your boat every 5 minutes (unless you’re into that). However, this was one of my favorite things to do. You can buy some cervezas and food and relax while cruising the canal. You can also bring your food, drinks, music, and decorations. It’s perfect for a date or a group celebration. Go early or late in the evening when it’s not as crowded.

Teotihuacan- A day trip to the Teotihuacan pyramids is a must-do! The tour I did started with a hot air balloon over the pyramids. It was magical. I must warn you that this tour begins at about 4-5 AM so that you can see the sunrise from the air. Additionally, it is freezing at this time, so bring a warm jacket.

Next, we walked through the pyramids. This can be very brutal in the heat. Bring a hat, good walking shoes, and plenty of sunscreen!

**Both Xochimilco and Teotihuacan (among other places) can be done with my favorite tour guide, Roger. He’s very knowledgeable, and I learned so much about the history of Mexico City through him. I can set it up for you if you would like.

Frida Kahlo Museum - Need I say more? You cannot go to Mexico City without stopping here. You can buy your tickets online in advance. You can buy tickets for either 10 AM when they open or around 3 PM when everything is dying down. The museum is closed on Mondays.

Coyoacan- This neighborhood is where Frida Kahlos Museum is located. If you happen to be there on a Sunday, you are in for a crowded treat! It’s a mix of Times Square and Soho in NYC. So many restaurants, bars, cafes, and live entertainment to choose from. You will not be bored, that’s for sure!

Lucha Libre- If you are down for some ratchet entertainment, this is the answer you’ve been looking for! Think food + drink + MMA fight night! https://cmll.com

Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe- This shrine is a big deal in Mexico City. It’s one of the most visited shrines in the world, and up there with the Vatican. I must say it’s very beautiful even if you’re not religious, it’s worth checking out.

Zocalo- This is the heart of Mexico City. Restaurants, stores, and LOTS of people. It was giving NYC’s Central Park vibes. It’s also good to catch live entertainment at night.

Other Things to Note:

-Uber is cheap as hell.

-Perfect time to visit is March to May and September to November.

-Yes, it’s safe!

-Cash is king.

-If you will be in town for over three days, consider a day trip to Puebla!

There is so much to see and do. Explore and have fun!
